Will it be sugar and spice and bows and Barbies that make Baby Bronson our petite fille?

First Movements

Even though this posting is overdue, I wanted to share that I have felt my first movements. So exciting! About two weeks ago, we went skiing in Winter Park, CO with my brother-and-sister-in-law, Amanda and Ryan. (yes, I know...skiing while pregnant, but don't worry...not only did my doctor give me his blessing, but it was a blast!)

As we were driving back to Denver on Sunday, I felt this weird sensation...it was significant enough for me to look around and see if anything had touched my stomach or I had bumped something. Then, it dawned on me that it was the baby! After a moment of "no....it is only the 15th week, it is way too early," I remembered my mom telling me that she had always felt movements early. My friend Kristen was the same, as well.

The best way I can describe it is if you very lightly run a fingertip on your palm...except it was that feeling from inside my abdomen. Crazy, but I suppose the conditions were pretty ideal since we were jostling over the continental divide while sitting in a car. Of course, the baby wanted to say "hello"...and probably "when is the next meal" and "where is the nearest restroom," as well!

The following weekend, we took another trip to Iowa, and I felt more movements. Again, it was mainly when we were in the car for periods longer than 30 minutes. But this time, and more presently, the feelings have become the more common sensations of flutters.

Several nights over the past week, I have made Adam keep his hand on my stomach thinking that he will feel it, too, but nothing yet. Soon...though! :)

What happened to my belly button?!?

As a child, I was always fascinated by unique features in my friends: dimples, braces, glasses, freckles, and "out-y" belly buttons, to name just a few. Particularly "out-y" belly buttons...they are so funny looking, not to mention so very different from my own which can categorized as a definite "in-y."

Well, last night I decided to treat myself to a warm bubble bath before climbing into bed, and I noticed something peculiar...I could see the floor of my belly button. That seemed odd. And not only that, my belly button was a lot larger than I previously remembered. It freaked me out so I called Adam in for confirmation that I wasn't crazy. Oh no! I wasn't. He just laughed at me as he usually does when weird things are happening.

Feeling sick? Feeling tired? Feeling bloated? These announcements are usually followed by snickering somewhere in another other room where Adam is actually beaming with a Chris Farley "That is Awesome!" type of a grin because I am experiencing the side effects of pregnancy...both good and bad.

But, back to the belly button thing. Someone asked me just the other day if my belly button had changed shape yet, to which I brushed off by saying, "ummm...no...I've never heard of that." Hmmmmm....guess they were on to something.
